My name is Tina Wankey and I look at helping people get to the root of the issues going on relating to their mental health. I still practice traditional therapy that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), talk therapy, but I add a whole new deeper level of treatment to my approach. I add in the focus of the real root of mental health problems. I address the BRAIN, the NEUROTRANSMITTERS, the MOOD CHEMICALS, those things that are actual culprits of mood issues. This is my true passion to identify the missing, most obvious, but not addressed in traditional medicine and/or therapy, the link of the brain to the imbalances relating to mental health.
My journey began in the arena of mental health and nutrition/nutrients when I was in high school and I didn’t even know it. I always had a passion for natural approaches versus taking medications. I also had a passion for psychology. I just never tied the two together. I always viewed them separately because that’s what was taught. I thought there had to be a separation, my thoughts were filled with you could only practice natural approaches or the mental health. Well than I started to gain more education in the natural area of nutrients and nutrition. I focused my studies on tying it into mental health. Eventually I went to get a master’s degree in holistic nutrition. I truly started to realize how easily I could tie the two together which now seems like a no brainer. Think about it, mood is connected to our neurotransmitters. Our neurotransitters only work if the body is receiving necessary and proper nutrients. There are specific nutrients such as cofactors and amino acids that are needed for neurotransmitters to work properly. When thinking about it at a level of how the body works, it makes totally sense that if you are going to truly address mental health, you really need to look at why the body is not firing correctly. It’s like having a leaky faucet. Do you want a temporary fix or would you prefer a real fix? A real fix is what you want and that’s what I want to do for you.
Throughout my life, I’ve had my own experiences of ups and downs. I have experienced anxiety, post partum depression, grief, divorce, remarried, had a kid, trying to balance school, kid, and deployments. We all have individual experiences in life. Some may be similar, but not exactly the same. That makes us unique in what we go through in life. I’ve learned having someone to talk to and to help you get through these struggles in life can be helpful. I’d like to help you get through your struggles.
